About the event
Join us on April 28th for a knowledge sharing workshop with local chicken keepers, Caitlyn Lewis and Rachel Reaves. They will share their experiences over the years with their flocks that were raised right here in Missoula. We will cover topics such as raising chicks, coop needs, types of feed, common problems, chicken enrichment and more! This workshop will begin at the Blue Mountain Flowers farm to take a look at a homemade coop and gain insight from Caitlyn's beautiful chickens. We’ll then head a few blocks away to another coop where we’ll meet Rachel’s happy chickens and learn even more together. This is the perfect course for anyone curious about beginning a journey into keeping chickens and those who wish to foster a community of other like-minded folks. Come enjoy a beautiful Spring day with us!
About the Instructors:
Caitlyn Lewis, owner of Blue Mountain Flowers, is enthusiastic about all things soil, plants, animals, and insects.
She helps tend for a small urban flock of chickens and loves having fresh eggs and fluffy companions to garden with. Longtime MUD member, Caitlyn loves sharing what she has learned with the community.
Rachel Reaves, a long-time Missoulian, took on the fun adventure of owning backyard chickens three years ago. What started as interest to have a few fluffy backyard companions has blossomed into a passion of urban chicken tending. She and her partner, also named Rachel, have had the experience of tending to chicks, pullets, and adult hens of a variety of breeds. The MUD community played a big part in The Rachel’s establishing their backyard chicken oasis, and now Rachel is excited to give back to the community by sharing the enthusiasm and knowledge she's gained throughout the years with anyone she can!
